Jespersen Design Associates is highly skilled at project management and through excellent communication, accurate scheduling and cost control, is able to bring projects in on time and on budget.

Commitment to Design
Jespersen Design Associates design reputation is based on simple, innovative and timeless designs. Our design philosophy centers around two essential architectural ideas. One is to use a building's structure to create a significant place within a site, and the other is to be sensitive to climate and site and to respond to these environmental demands with the form of the building. These ideas evolve from an appreciation of the extraordinary beauty of the natural . For dense/suburban sites we seek a solution that incorporates light, openness, privacy and living amongst but sheltered from the natural environment.

Design Philosophy
Jespersen Design Associates is a firm that will always work within the modern tradition. We see, however, the modern ideology as evolving and not static. All of our designs are rooted in the classic modern aesthetic. We maintain a distinction between modern and contemporary. Modern design is done through simplicity of line, minimal surface decoration and ornamentation, and the use of materials and technical innovations to achieve function-based forms. Jespersen Design Associates builds homes that are rooted in these basic design principles. Our work focuses on design that is informed by the Classic Moderns.

Deliverables
Jespersen Design Associates creates custom solutions for the different projects it undertakes. Basic deliverables that clients can expect are mapped out early in the process in a collaborative session.

For new custom residential construction:
  • 2 – 5 Design Sessions
Collaborative meetings/open discussions about design, project expectations, ideas, likes/dislikes, project necessities and wants, preliminary budget, permitting and timeline discussion. Use of design library and materials to visualize project ideas and goals. We strongly believe in discussion as a significant component to the design process and encourage a good dialogue with prospective clients. Site visit and picture taking.
  • First Concept Floor Plan and Exterior Sketches
We will provide scale floor plans and exterior sketches as a means to clarify spaces and illustrate living patterns and opportunities. Additionally, we will utilize these as a working springboard for the overall design.
  • Design Collage
We create a collage of exterior and interior finishes and visuals to help illustrate architectural ideas and concepts. We use this collage to also identify finish details sought by the client. Seeing how things that we may want to use have been used by other projects and in full color helps to clarify the destination. The collage is a multi-media foam board that displays pictures, sketches, materials, and scope of the design elements that we are looking to employ for a particular product.
  • Final Floor Plan and Exterior Drawings
At this point we look to solidify with the client the final particulars to the final floor plan and exterior design. All plans are fluid and change orders will occur, but we begin to lock in the basic tenets of the design and prepare for the permitting process.
  • Foam Board / Balsa Wood Scale Model of Home
In response to our thorough and involved approach, we provide a model for our clients of the home as it is proposed. These models show basic 3dimensional views and inform the clients of the overall look and feel that the structure will take on. Included are interior walls and ceilings to illustrate the sense of space the house will have.
  • Construction Documents
These are the "how to" for the contractor. A basic set of construction documents are those that the county necessitates to issue a building permit.
    1. site plan
    2. revegetation plan
    3. floor plan
    4. exterior elevations
    5. footing and foundation plans
    6. framing plans
    7. roofing plans
    8. electrical outlets and light plan
    9. basic HVAC layout
  • Additional Detail Drawings
These plans and drawings go beyond the basic set and help the contractor know exactly the way things should connect, look, work, or operate. Sometimes referred to as a full set in distinction from a basic set. We can provide these on an hourly or as needed basis.

Timeline
Our timelines are based on the nature of the project undertaking: new construction, remodel, interior design.

  • For New Construction:
Basic new construction takes 7 – 12 months. Design work for a new residential project can be spread out over a long period of time or done in as little as a month or so. There may also be some time needed for planning and permitting depending on where the site is located.

Construction
Jespersen Design Associates is set up to provide turn key residential design solutions. Our preference is to work with prospective clients from site selection, through design and permitting and oversee the construction. Because of our experience and intimate involvement in the project, overseeing construction and utilizing the subcontractors that best understand and deliver the modern solutions and designs planned for the project is something we recommend strongly. However, as with all of our services we custom-fit solutions to each new project based on client needs goals and budget.
